MILES STANDISH

Melbourne Portrait Photographer

Miles Standish has been practising powerful, emotional and “strikingly sensitive” portrait photography for over 30 years. A childhood gift of a Kodak Instamatic sparked a lifelong passion for photographing people and their faces.

Miles trained at Prahran College in the mid-1980s, where he was one of the youngest students in the very competitive fine art photography BA program. Prahran College was a highly-regarded Melbourne art school which counts many of Australia’s best contemporary photographic artists amongst its graduates.

After a lengthy sabbatical from photography, during which Miles established a successful legal career, he returned to portrait photography in 2008 with the very well-received solo exhibition The Effluxion of Time.

Miles’s work has featured as a finalist in the prestigious National Photographic Portrait Prize and Head On Portrait Prize, and as a semi-finalist in the Moran Photographic Prize. His images have been published widely and are held in numerous private collections.

In 2010, Miles created the unique photomedia consultancy, Photodrama®, which integrates portrait photography into professional development and leadership programs.

A collaborative and client-focussed photographer, Miles brings his powerful creative vision to corporate portraits; author, performer and artist portraits; environmental or studio editorial portraits; and commissioned family portraits.
